THE HONEST WOODCUTTER
The Honest Woodcutter , also known as Mercury and the Woodman and The Golden Axe , is one of Aesop's Fables , numbered 173 in the Perry Index . It serves as a cautionary tale on the need for cultivating honesty, even at the price of self-interest. Since i was a little kid i always read this fable and i loved this especially to the moral lesson of the story. The character of this fables are the goddess and the old man wood cutter who are very honest. If all the people are honest and believe the word the honesty is the best policy probably we do not encounter thief or any problems instead like what reward by the old man honesty he rewarded triplle or much multiple than the normal and special. There was once a woodcutter, working hard in the forest, getting wood to sell for some food. As he was cutting a tree, his axe accidentally fell into the river. The river was deep and was flowing really fast – he lost his axe and could not find it again...
